If the cover hasn’t already given it away, this is a quartet album from a soloist, namely, me. This is my tongue-in-cheek answer to the question I am asked at least once a week — what style of music do I sing. Difficult to answer, considering that many Christians seem to only possess two boxes in which to place spiritual music: Southern Gospel or Contemporary. Were I to answer Southern Gospel, you might well assume the following: (1) I only sing songs that are at least 40 years old or written by Bill Gaither, (2) I only sing songs that have a predictable rhyme scheme, and (3) I only sing songs keyed at least a full step out of my vocal range. Were I to answer Contemporary, you might well assume the following: (1) I can’t afford jeans large enough, (2) I sing slow songs averaging 8 minutes long, and (3) The songs I sing will contain a minimum of 9 choruses, and certainly will not pass without mentioning some sort of destructive natural phenomenon, (hurricane, flood, fire, etc).

I refuse to pigeonhole Christian music in this manner. Each different style has its own strength, whether it be the joy of convention music, the firm doctrinal foundation of hymnody, or the call to worship within contemporary music. My intention is to take these different strengths and use them to be a litmus test for true conversion. Are you persevering in spite of temptations to waver? Is the sinful state of the world a grievous thing to you? Do you long for the coming of the Lord and the establishment of righteousness? Do you have a living and active faith? Are you trending toward Christ-likeness? Does the daily view of the cross draw you inextricably to your Lord?

This album is aptly called a casserole — you will never quite know what went into it, and sometimes you don’t know what to call it. The recipe included years of planning, a month in the studio, and fifteen songs with four parts, all sung by me. I’m gonna go take a nap. Wake me when you finish listening and lemme know what you think, ok?

These are snippets from David Bruce Murray's album review.

"I admire the way Miles and Martha are able to find nearly forgotten songs like these and give them new life."

"As much as I tend to enjoy fast songs when it comes to most of the music I review, I would not want to see the overall character of The Grace Of Life altered."

"There is an artistic quality in The Grace Of Life that is generally missing in much of the music I review."

"Miles and Martha Pike draw from a diverse array of sources ranging from centuries old hymns to modern hymns, Southern Gospel, and praise/worship songs. I am impressed by the way they are able to present such diverse material in a thematic manner."

"The setting is one of sophisticated simplicity."

CD Synopsis

In the third chapter of 1 Peter marriage is called “the grace of life” and Martha and I have found that to be true. The blessing of becoming one flesh with another person in body and soul is a divine gift, and above and beyond that, we have found God loves His people in a special way through a godly spouse. Our marriage has taught us that God's graces are many: grace to live by, grace to die by, grace to be saved, grace to stay saved, grace to trust, grace to hope, grace to sustain, grace to stand by, grace to fall on, grace to pardon, grace to sanctify, grace to glorify. This album is itself a marriage of sorts. It's a union of old and new songs; of piano and voice; of introspection and worship; of our two hearts and our two artistries. We pray that through these songs your hearts would cleave to these truths as ours have, so that you will fully enjoy these graces of life.

These are snippets from Adam Edward's Southern Gospel Critique album review.

"To say that I’m blown away with this project is really an understatement."

"Miles’ range is uncanny!"

"I’m still looping it in my office now and I like it more now than when I first listened."

"From the first song to the last, I have honestly enjoyed this project as much as any I have any that I have ever received. Yes….any. And that says a lot about this project. It was good enough to bring me from review seclusion to let you know just how good this recording is. The song selections are great, the music and production quality is phenomenal and the vocals are top notch."

These are snippets from Lauren's Southern Gospel Blog album review.

"The title really says it all, the lyrics of each songs speaks candidly to Christians. Sometimes it takes a more humorous approach. Sometimes it's pretty straightforward."

CD Synopsis/Song Credits

Hard - Rich Mullins 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, Galatians 5:17, Romans 7:14-25 When I came to Christ, I had an idea of what being a Christian would mean in my life. A few changes here and there and get rid of some bad habits. Now, years after my conversion, I realize I had no idea what Christ had in mind. More than that, I realize I had no idea what He had to work with — or rather, the lack thereof.

Don’t Unpack Your Bags - Steve & Annie Chapman Hosea 4:6-9, 2 Timothy 4:1-5 In the beginning, people flocked to Christ for his powerful speaking and for his amazing miracles. But the truth He spoke offended people; rubbed salt in their decaying souls. And in the end, the majority of those that had followed him rejected what He said, and for three years of ministry, all the Son of God had to show for it was perhaps 500 people. Somehow, this is encouraging to me, in a round about way. Every preacher desiring to follow in Christ’s steps should consider seriously what He said — if I was rejected, you will be rejected. If I was hated, you will be hated.

Would Jesus Wear A Rolex - Margaret Archer/Chet Atkins Hebrews 13:5, Matthew 8:20, 1 Timothy 6:3-12 The only reason I can get away with bringing this issue up is because the song is funny. Otherwise it would be judgmental and “surely you don’t mean Bro. So-And-So” would start flying through the air. To me, the very fact that Bro. So-And-So popped into your head at all is a little telling. Obviously there’s a little doubt there already. And there shouldn’t be. God’s spokesmen should have an untainted reputation, in the world as well as in the church. Period. Is that a tall order? You betcha.

You Love The World - Keith Green James 4:3-10, 1 John 2:15-17, Luke 9:23-26, Luke 21:34-36 When I read what Christ said about loving the world, I find that His emphasis is on the love of it’s security, the love of it’s respect, the love of it’s entertainment — simple everyday loves. And I find the love of the world hiding in the shadows of my own heart, and once again have to cry out for forgiveness and grace.

Why Aren’t We Waiting - Chaz Bosarge Colossians 4:2-4, Isaiah 26:8-11, 2 Peter 3:11-14, Psalms 37 “Why aren’t we waiting?” I can easily answer with a quickly manufactured theological mini sermon, but “why am I personally not waiting,” is not so easily answered. Wonderfully good and needful things keep me from my Lord. I find myself Martha (the Biblical Martha — this is not a jab at my wife), wishing I could be Mary (the Biblical Mary — not any Mary you know), but too practical to actually let some of the good and needful things go undone.

Brother’s Keeper - Rich Mullins/Beaker Genesis 4:9, Luke 10:25-37, Luke 6:27-42 I want to be good to the people in my life so badly. And I know that’s part of the evidence of salvation — loving your neighbor and wanting to be true to the love that Christ places in your heart. But there’s not much that I fail at more regularly. I’m forever needing to go back to the Lord to ask Him to help me do what He has given me the desire to do — make me my brother’s keeper.

Man Against Man - Buddy Greene Colossians 3:1-17, Deuteronomy 10:17-19, Leviticus 19:15, James 2:1-17 When Christ looked at a person, I guess there was really only one category He ever saw. Adams race, all created in God’s image, all broken, all sinful, all needing a Savior. And when I forget that, my condemning, judgmental, stereotyping reflex demonstrates that it is alive and well in my flesh.

Recovering Pharisee - Buddy Greene Romans 7:21-8:11 My Christian life is very similar to what I imagine rehab is like. I’m in recovery — the cure has been given and it is even now at work. My mind is being changed to reflect the mind of Christ. But my flesh has got ruts a mile deep where the wheels of old habits go round and round. I know Christ is at work within me, but sometimes I wish He’d speed up the process.

Live Your Life - Tim Lovelace Proverbs 11:10, Matthew 12:33-36, Luke 6:43-49 I’ve sung the standards at dozens of funeral and heard some whitewashed (sometimes completely erroneous) eulogies by pastors who either did not know the person or knew them and lied as big as Dallas. And then there were the sweet funerals where we grieved for the gaping hole left in our lives, yet knew we’d see them again. That’s what I want my funeral to be like.

Modern Man - Stephen Hill Romans 3:10-18, Isaiah 59 When people come to our house, they are often surprised by the quiet. In the beginning of our marriage, we decided to do without cable TV; at the same time, living in the sticks, we have internet that is limited and slow. Not having those things, we gradually reacquired the sensitivity to filth that had somewhat eroded for both of us with prolonged exposure to media before marriage. When we see live TV now, it amazes us to think that we were at one time comfortable to be entertained by that. That’s an issue previous generations never had to deal with. Evil that used to be shut out of the protected atmosphere of the home is now piped in at every moment without pause. You can hold it in your hand, you can put it in your ear; it is readily accessible anywhere you go.

Hard to Get - Rich Mullins Psalm 73, Isaiah 55:8-11, Luke 22:39-46, Isaiah 53:4 What stands out most to me about the person of Christ is that He’s absolutely unpredictable. He’s full of contrasts. In every given circumstance He does exactly the right thing — but the right thing is rarely what I would have thought the right thing would be. If I had been a disciple, I’m very sure I’d have been yelling with the rest of them, “Master, wake up! Don’t you care that we’re gonna die?” Very sure, because that’s exactly the way I am now.

You Get Back Each Single Minute - Mark Bishop 2 Corinthians 4:16-5:2, 1 Peter 5:10, Romans 8:18-37 “I will restore the years that the locusts have eaten.” I love these words in Joel. I know so many people who are like the saints of the Old Testament — they don’t understand the ‘why’ of their present circumstances, but they look ahead with eyes of faith and know that in the end, God will make it right.

Talk About the Good Times - Jerry Reed 1 Peter 1:3-9, Isaiah 65:17-25, Isaiah 11:1-9, Isaiah 2:1-5 This song reminds me so much of my Grandad — a man who loved Jesus, loved his family, and loved his community. He was told that he needed open heart surgery by the doctor, and when his sister got onto him for cooking his eggs, bacon, biscuits, & gravy, he told her, “There’s somebody bigger than the doctor. I’m hurting, I’m tired, and I’m ready to go.” It makes me smile to think of him seinin’ for minners in the River of Life, humming “Just a Closer Walk With Thee.” Talk about a good time.

I pray this album is convicting to the heart, maturing to the mind, and an assault on the carnal. May the truth of Christ have the platform through these songs and be perfectly candid. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4:2 "We have renounced disgraceful ways; we refuse to deal craftily or to adulterate or handle dishonestly the Word of God, but we state the truth candidly. And so we commend ourselves in the sight and presence of God to every man's conscience."

"The production quality on this recording is excellent, but more than that, the style of this collection is consistent."

"Pike’s vocals convey confidence and conviction. As a soloist, he has the range and skill to keep it interesting without over-singing."

"I am pleased to report that Timeless Truth is Pike’s best release to date, and I recommend it for your consideration. I look forward to hearing what he does next."

These are snippets from Lauren's Southern Gospel Blog album review.

"I'll confess, I had not heard of Miles Pike until recently. However, after listening to his latest project, I hope that I hear much more from him in the future."

"This is not your simple hymns project. The orchestration and background vocals on some of the songs is extremely impressive."

"One thing that really impressed me about hearing Miles for really the first time on this album was his range. On some songs, he comes across as a strong tenor while others it seems that he is more of a bass. Incredible range!"

CD Synopsis

In a day and time when truth is considered to be subjective — what is true for you may not be true for me — absolute truth seems to be an illusive enigma. Many well known faces of mainstream Christianity refrain from being dogmatic about areas of controversy regarding areas clearly defined in the Word of God. Assaults on scientific, political, and philosophical fronts have silenced thousands who profess to hold the truth.

This collection of songs is intended to be a clarion call to arouse the hearts and minds of those who may have been shaken into silence regarding the sufficiency and inerrancy of the words of our God who cannot lie. Most of these songs have stood the test of hundreds of years and are still the accepted anthems of faith throughout the worldwide church. A few modern hymn selections have also been included to remind us that truth is the same yesterday, today, and forever and that it is still being celebrated with clarity and strength.

In the book of Acts (i.e. Acts 19:23), unbelievers commonly referred to Christianity as “the Way” because they viewed its followers as narrowminded — unaccepting of any other way to God. This narrow mindset about truth has preserved the purity of the Christian faith down through the centuries. I think it appropriate to include here the historic stance of those who brought about the Protestant Reformation and stood against the massive onslaught of false teachers who tried to add to what is revealed to us in the sixty-six books of the Holy Bible:

Sola scriptura! Sola fide! Sola gratia! Solus Christus! Soli Deo gloria!

By Scripture alone! By faith alone! By grace alone! Through Christ alone! Glory to God alone!

These are the tenets that Christ’s Church has always accepted as the Way. Removing any one of these principles from your belief removes you from Biblical Christianity. This is Truth. It lives and works through the pages of Holy Scripture alone and it encompasses all that pertains to life and Godliness.

1 Peter 1:24-25 quotes the Old Testament prophet, Isaiah, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” This word is the good news that was preached to you. This is timeless truth.

These are snippets from David Bruce Murray's album review.

"The excellent song selection is made even better by the consistent theme of family in the lyrics."

"...one of the more enjoyable songs is his “Tell Me How To Get There.” The Cajun rhythm is infectious."

"Blood Kin is a strong effort from Miles Pike with the bonus of good songwriting, vocals and production quality."

CD Synopsis

"Blood kin" is a term most often associated with immediate family: those who share relatives, background, physical features, and in many cases memories. Our Heavenly Father established earthly family both as a gift of grace and as a picture of the family that shares more than genes. Deeper than bloodlines and the deeper than earthly inheritances is the kinship that finds its roots in the love expressed by our Creator on the cross. Ours is a priceless legacy of forgiveness and mercy through the blood shed by Jesus Christ. Those that believe in Him have been adopted as the very sons and daughters of God Almighty. We who were once strangers and foreigners in this Kingdom are now blood kin and a way that goes far beyond earthly kinship.

This recording is for the believer: the redeemed and accepted into the family of God. Regardless of religious upbringing or denominational background, my hope is that this disc has found its way into the hands of someone who will be challenged to be a more godly and more stable member of the family. In doing so, I pray that you will love others into this adopted household. It does not matter whether you are a new believer or a longtime member of this ageless clan of Christians. All need to hear and remember that we are not alone and we in turn cannot leave others alone. We are our brothers keeper. We are to love, first, foremost, and never ceasing. No excuses as to why we don't and no reasoning away whether we must. Love is the sign of a true believer. If we say we love God and do not love our blood kin, we lie.

At the heart of this musical endeavor is a small tribute to those who have demonstrated real love and real faith to me most: my parents, my spouse, my family, and my dear friends who have all been part of my life in a big way. I believe that after listening to this linear lyric about the common vein of divine love that the body of Christ shares, you'll find that my story is your story, and our story is His story.

These are snippets from David Bruce Murray's album review.

"With twelve songs, a CD by a soloist can sometimes get monotonous, but that isn’t the case here. Walk Through The Pages includes a good range of musical styles."

"Speaking of vocal range, Pike is confident and capable over a wide range."

"I was impressed by the overall production quality, Pike’s vocal performance, the song selection and the concept of Walk Through The Pages. The interior packaging design looks great, too.

These are snippets from RadioIndy's album review.

"Highly talented vocalist, Miles Pike, releases a spectacular spiritual album, "Walk Through The Pages," dedicated to his pilgrimage to the Holy Land. This beautiful album is comprised of uplifting and reflective lyrics."

CD Synopsis

In 1999 and 2006, I had the privilege of accompanying our church group to the Holy Land. I had no idea what a profound impact these trips would have on my understanding of the stage upon which the ongoing story of redemption began. Between the two pilgrimages, I had the opportunity to sing on the Sea of Galilee, (in a boat), on the Mount of Olives looking out on Jerusalem, in the Upper Room, and on the Tel of Megiddo overlooking the Valley of Armageddon, and several other holy sites. After experiencing the Holy Land for myself, I wanted to record a CD that, in chronological order, contained songs that told some of my favorite Bible stories of the Holy Land and that gave compelling spiritual challenges with thought-provoking lyrics and maybe even a little fun and good humor.

This unique CD recording it's been years in the making, but the story which it tells started before time began. In tackling a book that spans nearly 750,000 words, one can hardly hope to encompass the grand scale on which this divinely inspired, 6,000 years old drama takes place. However, with much prayer and preparation, I hope that with 12 songs and 45 minutes I am able to take you on your own musical pilgrimage through the pages of Holy Scripture.

May the Holy Spirit enabled you to capture some of the spiritual themes, unparalleled continuity, and enduring stories that He breathed into the hearts of the writers. With God's help, I believe that I have accomplished the dream He set into motion years ago. I pray that every time you play this project you are not only transported cover to cover, but that you have an encounter with its Author.

Amazon CD Review

"A youthful, new approach to some classic songs, that will speak to the times that we live in."

CD Synopsis

I want to thank my Savior and best friend, Jesus Christ, for the joy I have while singing and hearing the songs. Without the peace, hope, and freedom he bought for me, they would just be dead words set to music.

My prayer is that the songs on this project will make he remember days when songs were simple, yet profound; encouraging, yet admonishing; timely, yet everlasting. May their messages spur you on to hold fast to that which is true, keep sacred that which is holy, and find again the joy of your salvation. 2 Thessalonians 2:15

Miles' Debut Project September 2007

These are snippets from The Christian Online Magazine's album review.

"This CD has the Wow factor. Wow! This guy can sing!"

"My Favorites: All of them! And I mean that!"

CD Synopsis

My prayer is that the songs on this project will make you pondered the things in God's word closer than ever, reminds you of the wonderful promises we have as his children, and draw you into a time and place of worship. 2 Timothy 1:17-14

First and foremost I want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for the talent and most of all the reason to sing. He is my every inspiration. The gift of music and song is for the sole purpose of lifting up His name. Many have misused it and most do not understand the power of it. What a joy it is present the gospel with the songs in my heart.
